Now grab a coffee (or an ice-cold Tusker, if it's after 5pm) and sit down with me, and I'll show you everything as if we were chatting on the couch in the living room.

I'm a TV addict living in Kenya — so I understand your pain

I really enjoy watching TV. Whether it's watching a Gor Mahia game, a Kenyan comedy classic or even the news on NTV.

The problem has always been finding an app that works well here. I've downloaded about 10 that only promise and don't deliver.

But after testing a lot of things, I discovered some that really work in our country — and better yet, without crashing, without delays, and even with local channels!

Why is it so hard to find a good TV app in Kenya?

First, because many international platforms do not release content here. Second, because local apps are often limited.

But don't worry, there are good options out there — and I'm only going to list the ones I use on my phone. And yes, they all work perfectly. here in Kenya.

1. ViU Live TV – My favorite app for everyday life

This was a find! ViU Live TV It's an app developed right here in Africa, so it understands our needs.

It streams channels like KTN, NTV, Citizen TV and even BBC Africa directly to your phone. And the best part: it runs smoothly even on 3G.

  • Works with any carrier
  • Free (with some ads, but nothing overwhelming)
  • Simple, no-frills interface

I use it almost every day, especially when I'm out and about. I highly recommend it!

2. Startimes ON – For those who enjoy more channels and sports

If you already use Startimes at home, you will love this app. With the Startimes ON, you can watch live pay TV channels directly on your cell phone, including African sports, soap operas, movies and much more.

  • Need to login with Startimes account (or top up the package)
  • Excellent quality even on average connections
  • Broadcasts African football, European leagues, children's channels and news

I always use this on weekends to watch the games. The broadcast is top notch.

3. DStv Stream – Perfect for those who already have a subscription

Yes, this one is more famous. But few people know that DStv Stream It works perfectly in Kenya. If you already have a DStv subscription, you can download the app and watch everything live on your phone or tablet.

  • Requires active DStv account
  • HD image (with good internet)
  • You can watch Premier League, South African soap operas and more

I only turn it on when there's an Arsenal game, to be honest. But it's never let me down.

4. Showmax – More for those who like series and films

Although not focused on live channels, the Showmax It's definitely worth it. It has a good variety of African content, as well as films and series from abroad. And yes, it also works perfectly here in Kenya.

  • It has a free plan with limited content
  • It works well even with weaker internet
  • You can download episodes to watch offline

For me, it's like Netflix, but with more local content. I use it whenever I want to relax after work.

5. KenyaTV – An app with only local channels (and it’s 100% free)

This one is like hidden gold. The KenyaTV focuses only on Kenyan channels. So if you want to follow the news, local programs, political debates or even reality shows from here, this is the app for you.

  • No account needed
  • All free
  • It even works on older phones

Is it simple? Yes. But does it solve the problem? Absolutely!

And how do I use these apps in my daily life?

I basically leave two apps fixed on my phone: ViU Live TV to follow local news and programs during the day, and the Startimes ON for when I want more variety.

I leave the Showmax to binge watch on the weekend and the DStv Stream to watch football when I'm away from home.

Oh, and important: I always recommend using Wi-Fi or a good data plan. Live TV consumes internet, and nobody wants a crash in the middle of the soap opera, right?
